Session 1: Agricultural Value Chain Virtual Discussion

Opening, welcoming and a brief outline of the course of the program

Francois Strydom | Chairperson, Agbiz

Agbiz Chairperson Francois Strydom, shares a word of welcome and extends his gratitude to the various panelists for their inputs. He explains the purpose of the virtual discussions and details how they will shape a clear understanding of the different role-player’s purpose in the agri value chain. He hopes that businesses will understand the food and fibre value chains better, realise how much we need each other and increase the favourability of localised production over imported goods.

CEO of Agricultural Business Chamber, Dr John Purchase gives an overview of the imperativeness of food security and the competitiveness of the South African agricultural and agri business sector, elements that are critical to ensuring that our country is food secure. He also speaks to the growing confidence in South Africa’s agriculture and agri business environment and explains the policies and legislation involved.

The Agriculture Master Plan

Professor Ferdi Meyer | Director, BFAP

Director of BFAB, Prof Ferdi Meyer talks about the reality of the South African agricultural sector, agro-processing and the planning process. He paints a picture of the agriculture master plan, a plan not only for agriculture but for many other sectors in the South African economy. He presents the different pillars of growth we see in the sector which link to the National Development Plan and explain how all these aspects can be put together. He also speaks to our understanding of a master plan and the importance of having a plan that is executable and realistically actionable.

LANDBOUWEEKLIKS - 14 April 2020: This year, the 10th AFMA Forum 2020 themed 'explore today for a better tomorrow' was hosted on 3-5 March 2020 at Sun City. This premier event is a highlight on the African agricultural and feed manufacturing calendars. It was the ideal platform for industry role-players to gather new industry information, network and display their products and service to the industry. Discussions not only included challenges such as nutritional and animal health, but also looked at aspects further down the value chain such as consumers’ perceptions on meat. GROOTPLAAS - 17 Februarie 2020: Vanjaar se AFMA Forum is om die draai, en kenners van regoor die wêreld op die gebied van veevoer gaan weer by Sun City saamtrek, om kwessies in dié bedryf te bespreek. Vanjaar se Forum beloof om rolspelers in die bedryf op hoogte te bring van die jongste tegnologie en ontwikkelinge in die veevoersektor. De Wet Boshoff van AFMA vertel ons nou meer hieroor.

GROOTPLAAS - 7 Mei 2019: De Wet Boshoff, uitvoerende direkteur van die Vereniging van Veevoervervaardigers gesels oor universiteitsbetrokkenheid by dié organisasie se werksaamhede.

GROOTPLAAS - 24 April 2017: Loutjie Dunn, die voorsitter van die Vereniging van Veevoervervaardigers gesels oor die invoer van hoenderprodukte en die gevolge daarvan vir die plaaslike bedryf.

GROOTPLAAS - 31 Maart 2017: Loutjie Dunn van AFMA gesels oor pluimvee-invoere en hoe dit die plaaslike pluimvee- en voerbedryf affekteer.

GROOT ONTBYT - 27 Januarie 2016: Die jongste navorsing en ontwikkeling in die veevoer-vervaardigingsbedryf kom eersdaags onder die loep tydens vanjaar se Afma Forum. Die 9de Afma Forum sal van 1 tot 3 Maart vanjaar by Sun City in Noordwes aangebied word. Dié konferensie word slegs elke drie jaar gehou. Elsa Esterhuizen het op die Groot Ontbyt met De Wet Boshoff, die uitvoerende direkteur van AFMA, oor dié hoëvlak konferensie gesels.

RSG LANDBOU - 25 Februarie 2020: Die uitvoerende hoof van AFMA, oftewel die Veevoervervaardigersvereniging, De Wet Boshoff, het in Januarie in Atlanta in die VSA, ‘n byeenkoms vir internasionale rolspelers van dié bedryf bygewoon. Vind meer uit oor wat die doel van die byeenkoms was. Luister nou na hierdie onderhoud.

RSG LANDBOU - 20 Februarie 2020: Die Veevoervervaardigersvereniging bied vroeg in Maart ‘n belangrike forum aan. Die organisasie se bestuurshoof, De Wet Boshoff, vertel waarop daar gefokus sal word.

OFM - 18 Junie 2019: Die Assosiasie vir Veevoervervaardigers in SA (AFMA) het die datums aangekondig van volgende jaar se AFMA Forum Die geleentheid is 'n groot hoogtepunt op die veevoerbedryf se kalender.

RSG LANDBOU - 20 Desember 2018: Varkprodusente kry in 2019 ‘n geleentheid om ‘n internasionale varksimposium by te woon. Die Ensminger-simposium word aanstaande jaar vir die eerste keer in Suid-Afrika aangebied.

KLANKKOERANT LANDBOU - 2 Augustus 2018: Die verkope van dierevoeding in Suid-Afrika is besig om te stabiliseer, na jare van verskeie uitdagings in die landbou bedryf. Die Uitvoerende Direkteur van AFMA, De Wet Boshoff verduidelik.

RSG LANDBOU - 7 Maart 2017: De Wet Boshoff, uitvoerende direkteur van AFMA, gesels met RSG-luisteraars oor die impak wat die invoer van hoedervleis tans op die plaaslike pluimveebedryf en ook die veevoermark het.

RSG LANDBOU - 16 November 2016: Ons het onlangs met De Wet Boshoff, uitvoerende direkteur van die Animal Feed Manufacturers’ Association, oftewel Afma, gepraat oor die stand van die Suid-Afrikaanse veevoerbedryf in 2016, mylpale wat bereik is en belangrike aksieplanne en projekte vir 2017.

RSG LANDBOU - 15 November 2016: Vernuwende denke in die veevoervervaardigingsbedryf om voedselsekerheid in 2050 te verseker, het onlangs onder die loep gekom by die Animal Feed Manufacturers’ Association, oftewel Afma, se jaarlikse simposium. Die simposium is by die WNNR in Pretoria gehou en verskeie plaaslike en internasionale sprekers het aan die simposium deelgeneem. Ons het na afloop van die simposium met De Wet Boshoff, uitvoerende direkteur van Afma, oor dié geleentheid gesels.
